For weddings and other Scottish events . . .
Coila is a professional three-piece ceilidh band with twenty years of experience. Based in Ayrshire, we regularly perform in central and southern Scotland, although we travel throughout the UK and abroad. While most of our engagements are ceilidhs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ayrshire, we often play for Burns and St Andrew's celebrations in Europe and the Middle and Far East. From Royal performances to international music festivals, we have the breadth of experience to guarantee a successful ceilidh, whatever the occasion. Over the years this has established us as one of the most popular ceilidh bands Scotland has to offer. |
 |
We are particularly popular for:
- Weddings
- Student balls
- Corporate events
- Fundraising ceilidhs
- Birthday celebrations
- Burns / St Andrew's nights
We adapt the mixture and order of the dances to the event. For example, at a student ceilidh we would tend to play more of the faster, set dances to make it a very lively night, whereas at a wedding we have a more balanced mix of fast and slow dances to allow everyone to enjoy the evening.

Weddings
For many years newly-wed couples have entrusted Coila Ceilidh Band with helping them celebrate their special day. With our combination of professionalism, musicianship and experience, the bride and groom can relax and enjoy the evening, relying on us to make their reception a success. Our compère and expert 'caller' encourages wedding guests onto the floor and guides them through every dance while adding a touch of humour to the evening. By tailoring the blend of music and dances to suit the audience, each ceilidh is a unique and memorable event. Should a mixture of ceilidh and disco music be required, we are able to optionally provide a professional disco DJ to complement the performance of the band. |
Not only is a ceilidh great fun at a wedding, it is probably the best way of mixing the bride and groom's families and friends together. We clearly 'call' or talk through all the dances throughout the evening allowing everyone to participate.
Most of our work comes via word of mouth from guests at weddings or from recommendations by hotels where we regularly play. Although most of our performances are ceilidhs in Edinburgh and Glasgow, we play throughout Scotland. We regularly perform at venues ranging from the finest hotels in Scotland to some of the more intimate local establishments.

Generally a full evening would be a three or four-hour ceilidh. We usually start with a waltz, introducing the bride and groom onto the dance-floor and giving guests the opportunity to get some photographs. The rest of the bridal party are then encouraged onto the floor before we get everyone up and put the ceilidh into full swing! The bride and groom can then relax as we take care of the rest of the evening. We would normally take a short break halfway through the night when tea/coffee or a buffet can be served.
Ceilidh band / disco combination
The combination of a ceilidh band together with a professional DJ
is becoming an increasingly popular choice for wedding receptions, as it caters for a wide variety of musical tastes. We can supply a ceilidh and disco package as required by the client. Often, the evening's entertainment begins with a ceilidh and finishes with a disco, although the the format of the night can be adapted to suit the wishes of the bride and groom. Our experienced DJ can also perform the first and/or last dances of the evening if required. With a high-spec light and sound system playing all the favourites, the dance-floor is always filled with guests enjoying themselves! |
