The Civic Theatre again resounded to the music of Coila last Sunday with Andrew McGarva, Alistair McCulloch, Willie Weir and David Hope and special guests Dougie Pincock, Stephen Quigg, Douglas Whyte and Richard Heron. The concert was refreshing to hear with Coila producing lots of traditional music plus they have diverted into more funky contemporary sounds. Douglas Whyte's arrangements of Calliope House and The Glasgow Reel, brought the house down. A great deal of the rapport the band have with the paying public comes down to the audience participation. Another delight was Coila putting their own vocal chords to use with a great deal of impact in the rendition of 'Hard Times'. M&D
The hall reverberated with the sound of three hundred folk clapping and stamping their feet as one of Scotland's brightest young bands 'stormed the place'. Coila aided and abetted by Dougie Pincock and Derek Williamson, delighted the audience with a swaggering program of tender slow airs, lilting waltzes and energetic reels, jigs and hornpipes. Musicianship was of a high order with the exceptionally
talented Alistair McCulloch leading the twin fiddle attack with Andrew
McGarva. Anon back to reviews | back to gigs
